Pennsylvania Utility Bill Relief: $100 Automatic Credit for Summer Energy Bills

Nearly 193,000 Pennsylvania households will automatically receive a one-time $100 credit on their utility bills this summer to help cover energy costs.

Distributed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, these funds are sent directly to utility providers to help families manage cooling expenses during hot weather.

Who is Eligible?

There is no new application for this program. To receive the $100 credit, a household must meet two simple conditions:
  • Previous LIHEAP Recipient: The household must have already received a Cash grant from the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) during the 2025–2026 season.
  • Vulnerable Household Member: At least one person living in the home must be a child under age 6, an adult aged 60 or older, or an individual with a disability.

How the Payment Works

  • Automatic Credit: Eligible households do not need to apply, re-register, or call their utility companies.
  • Direct Vendor Payment: The state sends the $100 credit directly to the energy provider that handled the household's original LIHEAP grant.
  • No Cash or Checks: The money will appear as a direct credit on the utility bill rather than as a paper check or direct deposit.
  • Limit: Payments are capped at one $100 credit per household.

What to Expect

The state began processing payments to utility vendors on July 29. Eligible families will receive a confirmation notice by mail.

If you meet the criteria but do not see the credit reflected on your energy statement after allowing processing time, you can reach out to the Pennsylvania LIHEAP helpline at 1-866-857-7095 for assistance.
